PolioPlus Society
In the 1980’s Polio affected children throughout the world with over 350,000 cases reported each year. In 1985 Rotary International took on the challenge to eradicate the world of this devastating disease and together, with our partners, we are now very close to achieving this.
So far this year (as at 22 June 2026) there have only been 7 cases reported globally in 2 countries - Afghanistan and Pakistan, but we can’t rest until we can declare the world free of Polio. This is the promise Rotary has made to the children of the world.
Our new PolioPlus Society helps us do the job. Rotarians, friends and family are invited to donate $100NZD each year until we eradicate Polio (similar to our Centurion giving). This money goes directly to our Polio campaign and every $1USD is matched by the Bill Gates Foundation 2:1, up to the value of $100million USD annually.
Joining is easy and each new member receives a special PolioPlus recognition pin and certificate. All donations are tax deductible and earn Rotary Foundation Recognition Points.
