End Polio All Transit Day
 
End Polio Now – we are closer than ever to a Polio-free world – but we are not there yet!
 
Thanks to the decades of vaccination, global collaboration and Rotary’s commitment, Polio cases have fallen by more than 99% since 1988. Two of the three wild poliovirus strains have been eradicated and today wild poliovirus type 1 remains endemic only in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
 
The final mile is the hardest.
 
As at 22nd September 2026, there have been 37 reported cases of wild polio worldwide this year. Every case is a reminder that until Polio is eradicated everywhere, children around the world remain at risk.
 
Rotary has been at the heart of the global fight against Polio since 1985, working alongside governments, health workers and our partners in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative to vaccinate children, strengthen surveillance and stop transmission.
 
You can help us finish the job!
 
To help raise awareness and funds for the End Polio campaign, District 9910, District 9920, District 9930 is taking Polio to the streets (not literally of course).
 
Our End Polio All Transit Day brings Rotary Clubs together across Districts to raise awareness, collect donations and show our communities that Rotary is determined to finish the job.
 
Rotarians are invited to join us on Friday 16th October 2026 across the NX and train transport network in Auckland and Hamilton to raise awareness to support this fight.
 
Clubs are encouraged to get involved by:
  • Joining us on the 16th October
  • Wearing your End Polio Now shirts
  • Raising funds through sponsorships, donations and club activities
  • Raising awareness by sharing why ending Polio matters
  • Inviting friends, family and your wider community to get involved.
 
Auckland Transport (AT) have kindly allowed all Rotarians wearing End Polio Now t-shirts to ride the public transport network free of charge as support of this important initiative.
 
Join us for a day of fun, fundraising and raising awareness as every contribution brings us one step closer to a Polio-free world.
